Teaching Awards in 2019

I’m so honored to have received two teaching awards at the end of the 2019 academic year:

• College of Applied Health Sciences 2019 Educator of the Year award

• Excalibur Award for Teaching Excellence selected by the graduating second-years in Biomedical Visualization

Both awards are an incredible honor - but I feel so moved by the award selected specifically by my students in the BVIS program. I hope that I can continue to meet these expectations and I feel so grateful to be able to teach such incredible students!

Elected! IGDA Chicago Board member

It’s a win!

I’ve officially been elected to the Chicago chapter board of the International Game Developer’s Association. I’m so honored to be able to serve in this position and eager to give back to the membership of the IGDA. More can be seen in the official IGDA announcement!

SciViz NYC

December 1st, 2017, I'm honored to have been able to give a 10 minute lightning talk for the annual conference, SciViz NYC. 

The talk covered the design and development of a new University of Illinois at Chicago Physical Therapy app, CPX Calc. Given the app's complex foundation in clinical research, the lecture covered the UI and UX design, content scaffolding, and color learning theory behind its creation.

2017 IGDAF Women in Games Ambassador

I'm incredibly grateful and proud to announce that I have been named one of the International Game Developers Foundation's Women In Games Ambassadors for 2017. I am so impressed with the incredible women they have chosen for this group, and remarkably humbled to stand beside them.

I will be headed to San Francisco at the end of February for the 2017 Game Developers Conference and couldn't be more thrilled!

AMI Conference 2016: Awards and Progress

Sam attended the AMI 2016 conference in Atlanta, where she was honored to receive the following: 

Award of Merit in the Student Interactive Category for "The Fungal Jungle"

Chancellor's Student Service & Leadership Award

Sam is a recipient of UIC's prestigious Chancellor's Student Service and Leadership Award, alongside fellow BVIS classmate, Samantha Olson, for their leadership and activism in the BVIS student organization, SAMA (the Student Association of Medical Artists). They will be honored at a reception and awards ceremony April 14 on East Campus of UIC. 

Abstract Accepted for ACPA 73rd Annual Meeting in Atlanta

Sam and her research team have successfully had their abstract accepted for the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association's 73rd Annual Meeting and Symposium in Atlanta, Georgia.

The abstract, titled, "Animation and Interactive Media's Educational and Emotional Impact on Children with Cleft and their Caregivers," will cover the four major project research questions of the four group members (Sam Bond, Samantha Olson, Melanie Conrad, and Eva Mae Natividad). 

Sam's component of this 30 minute presentation will discuss some of the successes and benefits of her research, animating Cleft Palate repair surgeries and housing those animations in an interactive environment with knowledge recall and clarification games.
